Description
The Metrex MetriCide™ 28 High-Level Disinfectant and Sterilant is a professional-grade, glutaraldehyde-based solution designed for reprocessing compatible immersible and heat-sensitive medical instruments. Formulated with 2.5% glutaraldehyde and surfactants, this activated solution provides high-level disinfection and chemical sterilization when used according to the manufacturer’s validated instructions.
MetriCide™ 28 is intended for use in an appropriate instrument immersion tray system and is compatible with a variety of medical devices, including certain anesthesia instruments, respiratory therapy equipment, stainless steel instruments, and heat-sensitive rubber and plastic equipment.
Its long-life formulation allows the activated solution to be reused for up to 28 days when properly maintained and monitored. The glutaraldehyde concentration must remain above the manufacturer’s minimum effective concentration (MEC), and the solution must be tested before each use with appropriate MetriTest™ 1.8% Glutaraldehyde Concentration Indicator Strips.
MetriCide™ 28 requires activation before use but does not require dilution. It provides a practical reprocessing solution for healthcare facilities and professional environments where compatible heat-sensitive instruments require high-level disinfection or chemical sterilization.

Common Applications:
MetriCide™ 28 is intended for professional reprocessing of compatible medical instruments and equipment in hospitals, surgical centers, medical practices, dental facilities, respiratory therapy departments, and other healthcare environments.
Common applications include high-level disinfection or chemical sterilization of designated heat-sensitive, immersible medical devices when alternative sterilization methods are unsuitable and the device manufacturer’s reprocessing instructions permit its use.
Important Information:
For professional medical instrument reprocessing only. Not intended for skin application, hand sanitizing, or routine environmental surface cleaning.
This product contains glutaraldehyde, a hazardous chemical that can cause irritation and sensitization. Use appropriate personal protective equipment, ventilation, exposure controls, and handling procedures according to the manufacturer’s Safety Data Sheet and applicable workplace safety requirements.
Activation is required before use. Test the solution’s minimum effective concentration before each use with the specified chemical indicator. The 28-day reuse period represents a maximum and does not override failed concentration testing, contamination, or other conditions requiring earlier replacement.
Follow the product’s current FDA-cleared instructions for use and the medical device manufacturer’s reprocessing requirements, including cleaning, immersion time, temperature, rinsing, and storage procedures. Chemical sterilization claims should not be interpreted as guaranteeing that a processed device can be maintained sterile during subsequent handling or storage.
