Description
The Metrex MetriCide™ 28 High-Level Disinfectant and Sterilant is a professional-grade, glutaraldehyde-based solution designed for reprocessing compatible immersible and heat-sensitive medical instruments. Formulated with 2.5% glutaraldehyde and surfactants, this activated solution provides high-level disinfection and chemical sterilization when used according to the manufacturer’s validated instructions.
MetriCide™ 28 is designed for use in appropriate instrument immersion systems and is suitable for a variety of compatible medical devices, including anesthesia equipment, respiratory therapy instruments, stainless steel instruments, and designated rubber and plastic medical equipment.
Its long-life formulation allows the activated solution to be reused for up to 28 days when properly maintained and monitored. The glutaraldehyde concentration must remain at or above the manufacturer’s minimum effective concentration (MEC), and the solution must be tested before each use using compatible MetriTest™ 1.8% Glutaraldehyde Concentration Indicator Strips.
MetriCide™ 28 requires activation before use but does not require dilution. Its convenient 1-gallon container provides an economical option for healthcare facilities requiring larger quantities of instrument reprocessing solution.

Common Applications:
MetriCide™ 28 is intended for professional high-level disinfection and chemical sterilization of compatible medical instruments in hospitals, surgical centers, medical offices, dental facilities, respiratory therapy departments, and other healthcare environments.
Common applications include reprocessing designated heat-sensitive, immersible medical devices when the device manufacturer’s instructions permit use of glutaraldehyde-based solutions.
Important Information:
For professional medical instrument reprocessing only. Not intended for application to skin, hand sanitizing, or routine environmental surface disinfection.
Contains glutaraldehyde, which can cause skin, eye, and respiratory irritation and sensitization. Use appropriate personal protective equipment, ventilation, exposure controls, and handling procedures according to the manufacturer’s current Safety Data Sheet.
Activation is required before use. Test the solution’s minimum effective concentration before each use using the specified chemical indicator strips. The maximum 28-day reuse period does not override failed concentration testing, contamination, or other conditions requiring earlier replacement.
Follow the product’s current FDA-cleared instructions and the medical device manufacturer’s reprocessing directions, including cleaning, immersion time, temperature, rinsing, and handling requirements. Liquid chemical sterilization does not provide sterile storage unless the subsequent handling and packaging process supports it.
